New Transrapid 09 proposal for GA/TN found.

All,

I reader sent us this link that is for the proposed Georgia/Tennessee Maglev line, but whats great about this you may ask?  Well it has new photos of the TR 09 train being built from frame up, new track design (power cables being laid within the track), and even a pix of solar panels on top of the track!

We strongly encourage, that if you are interested in seeing the trains from framework up to take a view at some of these photos.

FOUND! ARTIC phases 1,2,3 build out drafts

All,

While looking through the OCTA website we came across the M2 measure and the details of the funding what its being spent on.  Well within the Transit tab we found a few tabs that discuss the ARTIC station and development.

http://www.octa.net/M2Project.aspx?EntryId=343&TabId=1331

As you click on the Resource Library tab there are (6) downloads discussing the ARTIC project.  One area that was interesting was the download for the PB/HOK statement qualification download.  If you go to page 94 of 258 there are artist renderings of the phases of buildout.  Here is a screen capture of the finished phase (phase 3) the other 2 phases are there but, they are smaller and you cant see much.

As you can see the areas shaded in blue (stations) will be for both the ARTIC (CA HSR/ARC Anaheim Regional Connection/CANV Maglev) to the left will be the Amtrack and Metrolink stations.  Whats great is the pedestrian flow from both Honda Center and Anaheim Stadium to the stations.  Very minimal walking and multiple connections following Douglas avenue.

Dont forget just to the left of the Santa Anna River is the proposed CANV Maglev line that will follow the river North to its first stop Ontario Airport.

We have also seen Real Estate reports for the (bell curve area just South of the Katella Ave marking) for a buildout of a the parking lot area for the (2) high rises in the area for a "upscale eatery" area.  These last remaining open areas around the ARTIC area/stadiums once groundbreaking happens will become few and far between.

OCTA commits 20% Match for CA/NV Maglev FRA Application

All,

We received an update today from the CNIMP team announcing the following for the upcoming FRA funds release for HSR projects.

"Last month NDOT, in a joint effort with the California-Nevada Interstate Maglev Project (CNIMP), submitted an application for the FRA HSIPR FY 2010 Planning Funds. Showing very strong support to NDOT for this application, California has committed to a 20% match for this project, as shown in the attached letter of support.

“This is an extremely important project for both our states and will help ensure long-term economic growth as well as providing an environmentally friendly alternative to the heavily congested vehicle and air traffic that now dominates this corridor." - Peter Buffa, Director of OCTA."

The press announcement....
Part 2

This is exciting news as the CNIMP team awaits to hear back from the FRA for the announced funds from April.  As a side note Curt Pringle is also the current Mayor of Anaheim and Chair for CA HSR.

Anaheim Connext Site Updated

All,

We were notified today that the Anaheim Connext site has been updated.  http://aconnext.com/

There is more information and lots of roll-overs providing information ranging from Hotels, to meeting locations, to eateries.  However, there is still no mention of the connecting CA/NV Maglev project yet.  The CA HSR, Amtrack, Metrolink, and the new ARC (Anaheim Rapid Connection) are listed.  The ARC will transfer passengers from the ARTIC station via proposed (dedicated bus lanes or driverless peoplemover, or monorail.)  Previous posts will show the video of the station and the transferring modes.

http://canvmaglevnews.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

An additional change that we noticed is one of the logos identifying the different stations.  The Resort Station.  Previous logo had the "Resort" station with a design that looked like a castle (representing Disneyland).  Now the "Resort" station logo is a palm tree.

*old logo and then new logo*

**Remember that Disneyland has yet to announce any commitments to (design, land, or labor) for the project.  However, the "Resort Station" is on the un-announced 2nd parking structure that will be needed for the Disney California Adventure expansion project currently in construction.**

Solar topped concept MAGLEV train

All,

This new idea came out a day or two ago and has been posted to a lot of sites (and now this one).  While the photos have the Bombardier logo on them one of them has the insert of "Bombardier design contest" and we could not find any links within the Bombardier site.

It appears that this design will be used for inner-city and airport travel due to the solar panel placement mounted to its roof to assist with lighting.  Passengers sit sideways along the length of the train for a possible smaller track footprint.

http://www.inrumor.com/in/all/bombardier-train-without-a-runner/

We will only post a link to where the photos are as we can not confirm that this is actually from "Bombardier" due to the lack of a direct link to its website, press release and a search of "maglev" on Bombardier's site brings up an error message.

Overhead solar-power HSR proposed for Arizona

All,

Here is another proposed High Speed Rail for the Southwest Region.  However, this has a newer thought process that a lot of other HSR/Maglev lines are looking to consider.  Adding solar panels to either the train or track.  However, this one is creating a canopy of solar panels, thus shading the track for a portion of the day.

http://www.solarbullet.com/Front_page/index.html

They are promoting a "MotionSolar" technology that will solve security, robotic cleaning of panels, and maintenance.    And a target price of $20-40 million per mile.

Pittsburgh Maglev project moves to public review
By Matthew Santoni
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Thursday, June 10, 2010
Plans for a magnetically-levitating train from Pittsburgh to Greensburg are being opened to public review, marking another tiny step forward for the decade-long project.

The final environmental impact statement for the proposed $5.3 billion, 54-mile Pittsburgh Maglev project was posted for public review and comment Thursday at the Port Authority of Allegheny County's office and at portauthority.org. The authority is managing state and federal funding for McKeesport-based Maglev Inc., but has no role in planning or building the train.
Maglev Inc. President Fred Gurney said he was waiting for federal officials' go-ahead before taking the environmental study to the public, and the project's backers pushed Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to move it forward when he visited the factory floor last month.

"We've been looking for this for a long, long time," Gurney said.
The study describes the general plans for the train, which would use powerful magnets to hover above an elevated track connecting Pittsburgh International Airport, Downtown, Monroeville and Greensburg. It also describes how the proposed route would impact 198 residential properties and 43 commercial properties; and how the train could attract more than 40,000 riders per day if completed by 2014.

After the public review period is over July 16, Maglev Inc. will need to update its financial plans and projections. The Department of Transportation will then have to issue a decision that will determine if the project moves into financing and construction.

Only $52.5 million in earmarks and federal funding has been set aside for the project so far, but about half of it won't be released to Maglev Inc. for spending until the state throws in about $5 million in matching funds.

HSR 2010 U-tube video CA/NV Maglev

All,

It has been a few slow weeks with not a lot of Maglev News going on.  The CA/NV team is eagerly waiting for the recent FRA applications for additional funding money announcements.

We have found two you-tube videos from this year 2010 recent High Speed Rail Conference with Neil Cummings and the CA/NV Maglev group.

Enjoy,
