New Solar Plant in Primm, Nv.

All,

First Solar has signed a contract with Southern California Edison to produce 250 MW of solar power near Primm, Nv.  The area will be about 2,500 acres and will be ready by 2014 and fully operational by 2017.  This solar project will create about 300 new construction jobs.  First Solar also has a location in Boulder City on about 88 acres.

The solar panels will be ground-mounted on about 2,500 acres of public land near Primm, Nev. First Solar is developing the project, named Silver State South, which will interconnect with SCE’s proposed Eldorado-Ivanpah 220-kilovolt transmission line. The project is expected to begin producing electricity as early as 2014 and be fully operational by May 2017. It will create about 300 construction jobs, and the solar panels will be recycled after their useful lifespan.

(Wonders if we will start to see new housing in the area, or what a great option to commute from Vegas to Primm on the Maglev!)

Here's a map so you can see how big this project is going to be.

Don't forget that there is another project just to the West and South of Primm on the California side.  This will be on 3,600 acres creating 392MW!
